about

With outright excitement, Polish Juke would like to present fruits of yet another international collaboration - the new addition to our catalogue is a futuristic take on footwork coming all the way from Japan. The author of the offering is a versatile producer Keito Suzuki, who fell in love with juke music due to it's close relation with the frantic dance movements it induces. On his latest EP, "Cape", he crafts his unique take on the genre by infusing it with digital, computer-based vibe along with classical music, which he's strongly fascinated with.

KΣITO's previous adventurous output blended heavily percussive beats with hip-hop, jazz, film and ethnic music, also taking cues from anime soundtracks. At first glance, it may not seem that his eclectic tastes would go together hand in hand, yet he possesses an unprecedented ability to create a cohesive whole out of all those elements, which is well documented on the wonderfully executed "Cape" EP. Epic approach to some of the tracks is a nod to film score masters, such as Hans Zimmer ("Ball"), while on the next turn, the listener is taken on a journey through oriental soundscapes ("South"). What ties the diverse ends of the musical spectrum present on the EP is a strong sense of experimentation, which is based on impressive finger-drumming skills and emotive response - represented best in the powerful "Prefecture".

It is worth noting, that footwork is not the only genre KΣITO feels at home with. One of his favourite aspects of music is creating rhythm-heavy bases for dancers to lose their minds with, hence the audible inspirations taken from gqom present in his older tracks, bringing out even wilder and more unpredictable structures to the fore-front (last year's "Small Things" is a good example of his take on the south-african style). Apart from touching upon different takes of bass-oriented music, KΣITO has proved himself as a great footwork producer, who has cemented his position not only on the Japanese but the global scene as well. "Cape" EP is another step forward for himself, which apart from taking his style into new territories, also reinforces his unique vision for the Chicago-born genre.
